This exhibition is taking place on the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking people with creations generated on the lands of the Esquimalt, Songhees and WSÁNEĆ nations. It is important for us as artists to respect the lands in which our practice is possible and take on the responsibility of decolonizing our work environment.
Reaching out across the concourse hall from the depths of the Audain gallery, “Somasphere” is a diverse array of sculpture, video, 2D and performance art manifested by the students of Art 306/395. This multimedia collection is an exploration of the tensions between exterior and interior worlds; the echoing rhythms of a space within the body and mind, the vastness beyond skin, and the matter that inevitably shifts between each of these realms. Find your own form lost in the Somasphere from February 28th to March 4th within UVIC's Visual Arts Building.
